Fires cause material damage in Raparin district
RAPARIN — Three separate fires in the Raparin district last night caused significant material damage, although no casualties were reported, according to district officials.
Ali Qadir, a police spokesperson for the Raparin district, informed 964media that emergency response teams acted swiftly to control the fires in various locations. “In the two incidents involving wheat fields, six donums [1.48 acres] were burned, and the damage to the house in Sarkapkan was estimated at 3.5 million dinars [around $2400],” Qadir stated on Friday morning.
The incidents included a fire in the wheat fields of Goman, a village in the Hero subdistrict, and another in the village of Zurkan, part of the Sangasar subdistrict. Additionally, an electrical short circuit sparked a fire in a residential building in the Sarkapkan subdistrict.
Further complicating the district’s fire challenges, a significant blaze occurred on Saturday in the farmlands of Nuredin village. Local villagers and civil defense teams from Qaladze managed to control the fire, which consumed six to seven donums of wheat fields. Strong winds initially helped the fire spread, but prompt action by the villagers contained it before more extensive damage could occur.
Last week, the Baranati Plains witnessed a fire ignited by a lightning storm, marking a rare occurrence for the area. “This is the first time lightning has caused such damage,” said Tahseen Aga Gardi, the owner of the affected fields, noting that an irrigation system was also destroyed. Historically, fires in the area have typically been caused by electrical shorts.
