Cash-strapped public library recieves huge cache of books
ERBIL, January 22 – Over 4,500 books have been generously contributed to the Erbil Public Library, as confirmed by its director, Naz Falakeddin Kakeyi.
Constructed between 2005 and 2008 with assistance from South Korea, the Erbil Public Library is situated in Sami Abdulrahman Park. It boasts a collection of over 200,000 titles, including a dedicated children’s section.
Kakeyi, in a conversation with 964, revealed that his institution received a donation of 4,557 Kurdish-language books from another library, which have been distributed across all its branches.
The Erbil Public Library, often referred to as the Olive Library, is the main hub among 23 branches serving the province’s districts.
Kakeyi highlighted the library’s financial constraints, noting that acquiring new books is a significant challenge due to limited funding. He expressed gratitude to the libraries and institutions that support their collection.
