Iraq’s PM meets World Bank Group head in Davos
ERBIL, January 17 — Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa’ Al-Sudani met with President of the World Bank Group Mr. Ajay Banga on the sidelines of the 54th World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Wednesday.
A readout of the meeting issued by Al-Sudani’s office said:
The meeting delved into the cooperative relations between Iraq and the World Bank Group across various economic fields. These collaborations aim to bolster the government’s efforts and strategic plans, fostering increased investment and development opportunities in Iraq.
The meeting also involved a review of the measures and actions taken by the government and the Central Bank of Iraq in terms of financial and banking reform. Additionally, projects financed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) were discussed, with a focus on initiatives such as the Baghdad International Airport rehabilitation and development project.
The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of the World Bank accurately reporting the new government’s policies implemented in the economic and banking sectors. These policies are geared towards supporting the private sector, diversifying the economy, fostering growth, and achieving financial stability amid the challenges facing the region and the world.
President of the World Bank Group, Mr. Ajay Banga, commended the government’s initiatives in modernizing and developing the banking sector. He expressed strong support for these measures, particularly in the implementation of the electronic payment system.
