Iraqi traffic authorities collaborate with Kurdistan region for unified traffic system

ERBIL, January 14– The Iraqi General Directorate of Traffic underscores its intent to fostering unity in the traffic system with the Kurdistan Region, a collaborative effort that has been long pursued.

Ziad Qaisi, spokesperson for Iraqi General Directorate, told the official news agency that a significant portion of traffic-related issues has already been unified with the region. Anticipating legislative approval, Qaisi stated, “We look forward to the passage of the law, enabling both the region and Baghdad to adhere to all applicable measures.”

“Efforts will be directed at unifying the car registration system and standardizing driver’s license issuance, contributing to the realization of a cohesive traffic system”, he added.

This commitment was underscored on May 18, 2023, when a delegation from the federal Ministry of Interior, led by the Director General of Iraqi Traffic and several senior traffic officers, visited the Erbil Traffic Directorate (ETD). The purpose of the visit was to coordinate efforts and glean insights from the experiences of the Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Traffic Directorates, according a statement from ETD back then.
