Lack of ICU forced patient's transfer

Policeman from Said Sadiq dies en route to Sulaymaniyah hospital

SULAYMANIAH, December 28 — Inadequate healthcare facilities in Sulaymaniyah’s Said Sadiq district are being blamed for the death of a police officer who sustained injuries in a traffic accident on Wednesday night.

The 41-year-old man was riding a three-wheeled motorcycle when he collided with a concrete barrier. He was then taken to the Shahid Shawkat Hospital in Said Sadiq, where a hospital administrator said he arrived with injuries and bleeding.

Administrator Ayub Jamil said the patient was transfered to a larger facility in Sulaymaniyah, which had an intensive care unit (ICU), but that he died en route, succumbing to his injuries.
