"political not technical" reasons

Turkey extends flight ban to Sulaymaniyah Airport for additional six months

SULAYMANIYAH, December 23– The Turkish aviation directorate has extended its ban on the flight to Sulaymaniyah Airport, citing “continued reservations”.

Despite initial expectations of a lift on December 22, 2023, Turkey has opted to prolong the ban until June 22, 2024.

Sulaymaniyah International Airport Director Handren Hiwa Mufti told 964media that, “despite governmental and political efforts to lift the flight ban, Turkey remains unconvinced.”

Mufti emphasized the airport’s seamless technical operations and services for all other airlines, underscoring that the issue lies within the realm of politics, necessitating diplomatic efforts to sway Turkey into reconsidering the resumption of flights.
