Solar power initiative illuminates Kanaroy Primary School in Sulaymaniyah

SULAYMANIYAH, December 23 — The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has installed solar panels atop Kanaroy Primary School in Sulaymaniyah’s Sharbazher district as part of a broader plan to transition eight schools in the governorate to solar energy.

Latif Hussein, Director of the Sharbazher Education Directorate, informed 964 that the project, costing $8,000, is scheduled for completion next Saturday.

Once finalized, the solar energy system will contribute 20 amps of electricity, alleviating the school from previous challenges related to power shortages.

UNICEF is expected to implement a similar project at other schools in the region.
