Sulaymaniyah faces seasonal influenza outbreak

SULAYMANIYAH, December 23 — The Sulaymaniyah General Directorate of Health reported on Friday the widespread occurrence of a seasonal influenza epidemic that has affected the local population over the past several weeks.

Described as a viral infectious disease, seasonal influenza manifests with symptoms such as fatigue, fever, body and muscle aches, cough, sneezing, sore throat, sweating, headache, and nausea.

Goran Mohedin, a respiratory specialist, advised those infected, particularly young people, to prioritize rest at home, frequent handwashing with soap and water, and the regular use of masks. Additionally, Mohedin recommended vaccination as a proactive measure against the influenza virus.

In accordance with Ministry of Health guidelines, individuals infected with seasonal influenza are advised to rest, ensure adequate hydration by drinking plenty of water and fluids, maintain a balanced diet with a focus on fruits and vegetables, and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms escalate and health conditions deteriorate.
