Kirkuk police confirm smooth day of voting

KIRKUK, December 18 — Kirkuk police authorities reported an incident-free election process in the city on Monday, with no major obstacles reported at any polling stations.

In an update provided to 964, Kirkuk police spokesperson Sabir Mohammed confirmed there were no recorded violations, both within Kirkuk city and  surrounding areas.

Monday’s elections in Kirkuk represent the first provincial council vote in the city since 2005. With a substantial electorate of 871,000 eligible voters, the competition for seats in Kirkuk included a total of 15 alliances and parties are vying for 16 seats on the city council, reflecting the diverse political landscape of the region.
