Al-Sudani sets election preparations in motion

BAGHDAD, December 10 — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani has designated December 12 as the date for handing over schools to the Electoral Commission, and announced the official closure of government institutions on December 18 and 19 for the upcoming provincial council elections.

A statement from the media office, received by Network 964, reads:

“Today, Sunday, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani met with the President of the Independent High Electoral Commission, Mr. Omar Ahmed Mohammed, accompanied by the Head of the Electoral Administration in the Commission, Mr. Abbas Al-Fatlawi.

He was briefed on the latest preparations of the Commission for the upcoming provincial council elections scheduled for December 18.

The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to the success of the electoral process, considering it a constitutional obligation. He stressed the importance of ensuring all necessary requirements for success to truly reflect the will of the Iraqi people, ensuring its fairness and transparency.

During the meeting, December 12 was set as the date for handing over schools to the Commission’s staff to prepare for the electoral process. Additionally, official school activities will be suspended for a week, and the official closure of government institutions is scheduled for December 18 and 19, pending approval by the Cabinet in its next session.”
