Kurdistan Ministry of Agriculture signs potato supply agreement with 11 factories for local production expansion

ERBIL, December 10 — The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources in Kurdistan has entered into an agreement this year with 11 factories to purchase potatoes from local farmers. In exchange, the factories will receive support for their products at the expense of the importer, marketing them to various regions in Iraq.

According to statistics from the Kurdistan government’s Ministry of Agriculture, there are 11 factories producing chips and fries, meeting local demand and now exporting surplus products to provinces in central and southern Iraq.

The Kurdistan Region has produced 600,000 tons of potatoes this year, with 130,000 tons earmarked for food consumption. The factories require over 250,000 tons of potatoes annually, ensuring a shift towards local potato sourcing.
