Officials move to control inflation
KRG removes tariffs on imported produce to ease market prices
ERBIL, December 6– The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has removed taxes on imported tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, eggplant, and zucchini, in a move to alleviate market costs.
The Ministry of Agriculture imposes taxes each year on these goods to incentivize local farmers to sell their crops.
Shalaw Jamal, Director of the Agriculture Directorate in Sulaymaniyah, explained, “Starting in the fall, taxes on these products are removed by the Ministry of Agriculture to prevent market inflation.”
He emphasized ongoing efforts to enhance domestic production and ensure the availability of local products throughout the year.
