Two officials detained for bribes over land leases and a political prisoner’s pension

BAGHDAD — The Federal Commission of Integrity has arrested the legal department director of the National Insurance Company and a National Pension Authority employee in separate operations in Baghdad as they took bribes.

The insurance official was caught receiving money to renew leases on two plots of land in Diwaniyah, and investigators seized a letter about the properties from the Diwaniyah Municipality Directorate. The pension employee, in the department handling political prisoners’ entitlements, was caught taking 2 million dinars, about $1,300, from a woman in return for releasing salary payments owed to her, and was found holding her Mastercard.

Both were brought before the Rusafa investigation judge for integrity cases and ordered detained under Revolutionary Command Council Decision No. 160 of 1983.
