Duhok international film festival’s 10th edition unveils diverse film selection

DUHOK, December 2 – The anticipated 10th edition of the Duhok International Film Festival is scheduled to commence on December 9, 2023, featuring a selection of over 100 foreign and Kurdish films.

Traditionally screened in cinemas, halls, and malls across Duhok, this year marks a distinctive departure as the films are slated to be presented for prisoners at Zrka Prison as well. Hassan Arif, spokesperson for the Duhok International Film Festival, revealed that out of the 700 submissions received on June 1, 2023, a rigorous evaluation process led to the selection of 116 films.

This diverse array includes 50 Kurdish films and 66 foreign films spanning 16 languages, encompassing short films, feature films, and documentaries.

Notably, the prestigious Yılmaz Günay Award, valued at $10,000, awaits the accolade for the best film.
