Raparin police act on a tip to the municipality

Police destroys crops after farmer allegedly uses sewage waste water to irrigate fields

QALADZE, November 30 —  A farmer in Sulaymaniyah’s Qaladze district was found to have used sewage waste water to irrigate vegetable crops, forcing local authorities to take over the land and replough the fields to avoid a potential public health crisis.

Ivan Aziz, Director of the Media and Communications Department with the Raparin Police, told 964 that a tip to the local municipality office indicated the use of contaminated water for vegetable irrigation in the Sartapkan area and authorities intervened immediately.

The affected land, spanning approximately one acre, revealed no evidence of vegetable harvests by the farmer. Police, in collaboration with the Raparin municipality, deployed machinery to excavate and subsequently destroy the contaminated vegetables.
