Community kitchen opens in Said Sadiq to feed 300 people a day

SULAYMANIYAH — A charitable community kitchen opened Tuesday in Said Sadiq, the first of its kind in the Sulaymaniyah governorate district, offering free daily meals to residents in need.

Funded by entrepreneur Mariwan Haji Jamal, the kitchen was inaugurated at a ceremony attended by local officials and aims to feed low-income families, laborers and travelers passing through the area.

Project supervisor Zryan Salah told 964media the kitchen prepares meals for 300 people a day, currently lunch only, with dishes including rice, meat and stew. Organizers hope to open similar kitchens elsewhere in the Kurdistan Region. “We launched this charitable project to support poor people and laborers, especially those with limited financial means,” Salah said. “We chose Said Sadiq as the first location.”

A laborer using the service told 964media they leave for work early and return at noon, and that the free meals help cut daily expenses.

Said Sadiq is a district with an economy based largely on agriculture, livestock, small businesses and daily wage labor.
