Iraq warns of legal action against pyrotechnics during Eid celebrations
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Interior Ministry warned Tuesday that people using dangerous fireworks, firecrackers and metal-ball projectiles during Eid al-Adha would face legal accountability, as security forces began deploying across the country with instructions to prevent their sale and use.
Ministry spokesperson Col. Mohammed Ali al-Hassoun told the Iraqi News Agency that emergency patrols, mobile units and intelligence teams had been deployed “with strict measures” and that violators would be held accountable “in order to preserve public safety.” He called on citizens to cooperate with security forces and prevent their children from using such items.
Iraqi authorities launch similar campaigns before major holidays each year. Hospitals in several governorates have previously recorded injuries among children and teenagers linked to explosive toys, pellet guns and fireworks during Eid gatherings.
