PM Barzani condemns attacks on UAE in call with UAE president

ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said he held a phone call with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, condemning the recent attacks facing the country.

Barzani said in a statement that the call addressed “ways to further strengthen relations between the Kurdistan Region and the UAE, as well as developments in the region.”

He added, “I reiterated our position of support and the condemnation of the recent attacks targeting the UAE,” and reaffirmed “the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the region.”

Attacks on the United Arab Emirates in early May are part of a broader escalation involving Iran and regional tensions linked to conflict with the United States and Israel. On Monday, the UAE said its air defense systems intercepted a number of missiles and drones launched toward the country. On Tuesday, further attacks reported.

The attacks come amid a ceasefire announced in early April between the United States and Iran, which has remained in place despite continued tensions and intermittent attacks across the region.
