Khazali congratulates al-Zaidi on PM nomination, calls it ‘a new glimmer of hope’
BAGHDAD — Asaib Ahl al-Haq Secretary-General Qais al-Khazali on Tuesday congratulated Ali al-Zaidi on his nomination as prime minister-designate, describing the appointment as “a new glimmer of hope for our dear Iraqi people.”
In a post on X, Khazali extended “highest congratulations and blessings” to al-Zaidi “on the occasion of gaining the confidence of the Coordination Framework leaders and his assignment to lead the Iraqi government at a pivotal stage that requires wisdom, determination, and a strong will.” He expressed hope for “firm steps toward bringing Iraq to safety and consolidating the foundations of a strong state capable of protecting its sovereignty and achieving the aspirations of its people.”
The Coordination Framework nominated al-Zaidi Monday evening, ending a deadlock that had persisted since the November 2025 parliamentary elections. He has 30 days to form a cabinet, draft a government program and secure approval from the 329-member parliament.
