Drone falls in Sulaymaniyah residential neighborhood, injuring child
SULAYMANIYAH — A drone fell early Thursday in the Qalawa neighborhood of Sulaymaniyah, injuring a child and damaging several homes, residents said.
964media visited one of the affected houses. Resident Shahen Ali said her family woke to the sound of the drone crashing. The impact shattered windows and damaged nearby walls, and she said children in the area were frightened and went into shock.
Security forces said they have opened an investigation into the incident.
The Kurdistan Region has faced at least 200 drone, missile and rocket attacks since the war began Feb. 28, killing four people and injuring 19, according to Community Peacemaker Teams – Iraqi Kurdistan. The IRGC and affiliated Iran-aligned armed groups in Iraq have claimed responsibility for many of the attacks, which have struck military installations, diplomatic facilities, airports, oil sites and residential areas across Erbil and Sulaymaniyah governorates.
