Kata’ib Hezbollah Warns U.S. Will ‘Pay the Price’ for Allowing Israeli Use of Iraqi Airspace
Kata’ib Hezbollah hails appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new supreme leader
BAGHDAD — Kata’ib Hezbollah Secretary-General Abu Hussein al-Hamidawi became the first Iraqi militia leader to publicly hail the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new supreme leader on Monday, describing him as possessing “the leadership qualifications and competence” to manage “the burdens of this great trust in this difficult circumstance.”
In a statement, Hamidawi called the appointment “further evidence of the keenness of the Assembly of Experts, their insight, and their deep foresight regarding the scale of the fateful challenges facing the nation,” and described Mojtaba as “the best successor to the best predecessor.”
The 88-member Assembly of Experts officially named Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, as the Islamic Republic’s third supreme leader on Sunday, following the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the U.S.-Israeli strikes that launched the regional war on Feb. 28. He had for years maintained significant influence within the security apparatus and the IRGC before his appointment.
