Drone strikes logistical camp near Baghdad airport linked to US Embassy

BAGHDAD — A drone struck a logistical support camp affiliated with the U.S. Embassy near Baghdad International Airport early Wednesday, as media outlets linked to PMF-affiliated armed groups claimed a strike on what they described as the U.S. Victory Base.

U.S. forces were said to withdraw from Victory Base in September 2025 as part of the phased U.S. military withdrawal from Baghdad. It is unclear whether any U.S. personnel remain at the site. The target has been described as a logistical support camp linked to the embassy rather than a military base.

Footage obtained by 964media shows the drone’s path and an explosion near the site. No group has claimed responsibility and officials have not confirmed casualties or damage.

Late Tuesday, Iraq’s Security Media Cell said a small drone had been shot down “on the far edges of the perimeter of Baghdad International Airport” at 12:40 p.m., with no casualties or material losses recorded.

The strike is the latest in a wave of drone and missile activity across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region since the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran began Saturday.
