Sudani calls for dialogue to ease regional tensions during meeting with Lebanese envoy
BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani received the new Lebanese Ambassador to Iraq, Khalil Abdullah Mohammed, on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office.
During the meeting, Al-Sudani affirmed Iraq’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across various fields in a way that serves the interests of both countries.
He stressed Iraq’s “keenness to elevate the level of bilateral relations and to strengthen partnership and cooperation across various fields, in a manner that positively reflects on the national interests of the two brotherly peoples and advances the path of development and prosperity,” the statement said.
Al-Sudani reiterated Iraq’s “full support for Lebanon’s unity and sovereignty” and its rejection of “Zionist aggression against its territory.” He emphasized the need for joint efforts to reduce escalation and contain tensions in the region through dialogue to address crises and preserve security and stability.
The ambassador affirmed Lebanon’s commitment to maintaining its relations with Iraq “in a manner that serves mutual interests,” according to the statement.
