Barzani thanks Kurdistan Region residents for Rojava aid efforts
ERBIL — Kurdistan Democratic Party leader Masoud Barzani on Wednesday thanked residents of the Kurdistan Region for their participation in humanitarian aid efforts supporting Kurds in Rojava, Syria.
In a statement, Barzani expressed appreciation to citizens who contributed aid for people affected by Syrian government assaults on Kurdish areas. “I extend my thanks to all the beloved citizens of Kurdistan for their heartfelt response in collecting aid and assistance for our brothers and sisters in Western Kurdistan (Rojava),” he said.
Kurds around the world have mobilized in what activists described as an unprecedented show of solidarity as Syrian Islamist regime forces intensified attacks on Kurdish areas in northern Syria. Several humanitarian campaigns were launched to support affected civilians, while activists used social media to document atrocities committed against Kurdish communities.
Barzani said the public response reflected shared responsibility and called the stance taken by residents “a source of pride and appreciation.”
He thanked the Barzani Charity Foundation, along with organizations, institutions, individuals and media outlets involved in organizing and delivering assistance, saying the efforts fulfilled “a national duty” and strengthened “national awareness.”
“The people of Kurdistan once again reaffirmed to the world that the people of Kurdistan stand together in times of joy and hardship, sharing each other’s pain and supporting one another,” Barzani said.
