Alliance 19 reports 113 civil activities across Kurdistan in January
SULAYMANIYAH — The Alliance 19 Network, a human rights group in the Kurdistan Region, released figures on civil activities carried out in January, reporting that all events concluded without violence or the use of tear gas and that most demonstrations focused on western Kurdistan.
According to the report, a total of 113 civil activities were recorded across the Kurdistan Region in January 2026. These included 77 gatherings, 17 marches, 16 press conferences, two cases of road closures and one strike.
The network said the largest share of activities was held in support of Rojava against attacks by the Syrian army, accounting for 86% of all recorded activities, or 98 events. Other causes accounted for smaller shares, including services at 2%, salaries at 1%, and the rights of animals, students and people with special needs, each at 1%.
Sulaymaniyah governorate recorded the highest number of activities, with 47 events, or 42% of the total, followed by Erbil with 24 activities, or 21%. The Raparin administration recorded 15 activities, or 13%, Duhok nine activities, or 8%, Garmian eight activities, or 7%, Halabja six activities, or 5%, and the Soran administration recorded the lowest number with four activities, or 4%.
The Alliance 19 Network said that among the hundreds of thousands of participants, the Kurdistan flag was dominant, while Kurdish party flags were not observed. It said no violence occurred and that security forces carried out their protection duties.
The report added that no cases of harassment against girls or women were recorded and that hate speech remained at its lowest level.
