Former Wasit governor

Al-Mayahy: Iraq’s next government must avoid ‘experimentation’

WASIT — Mohammed Jameel Al-Mayahy, head of the Wasit Ajmal Alliance, said the incoming Iraqi government must not serve as a testing ground or transitional phase, emphasizing that economic policy should be its top priority.

In a post, Al-Mayahy stated, “The new government should not be a station for experimentation or just a phase to pass through. Years are passing, the world is evolving and changing, and everyone is responsible for forming a government that puts the economic program first.”

Al-Mayahy was also governor of Wasit before resigning in July following public outcry over a deadly fire at a shopping mall in Kut that killed 61 people.

He stressed the importance of appointing ministers who have “proven success” and called for a realistic timeline to implement the government’s program. He added that the next administration will face “difficult files including financial, water-related, and international issues.”

The IHEC released the final election results on Monday, confirming turnout above 56 percent and publishing the distribution of all 329 parliamentary seats across the country’s 18 governorates.

Iraq’s Federal Supreme Court ruled Monday that the current parliament’s term has ended and that the cabinet formed under it is now restricted to caretaker functions only, responding to a request from President Abdul Latif Rashid.
