Pledges transparent review

Electoral commission says 48 election complaints filed so far

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission said Wednesday it has received 48 complaints related to the 2025 parliamentary elections, including 39 from the special voting phase and nine from the general vote.

“The number of complaints is 39 for special voting and 9 for general voting so far. The submission of general voting complaints will continue until the end of official working hours today, November 12,” the commission said in a statement.

IHEC said it continues to review reports of alleged violations from both phases of the electoral process. It added that “in the event any candidate is excluded, the votes obtained by that candidate will be withheld from both the candidate and their party.”

The commission said it remains committed to transparency and accuracy as it processes complaints and finalizes results from Iraq’s November 11 elections.

According to the commission, turnout in the nationwide vote surpassed 55%, with more than 13 million Iraqis casting ballots in a process described as calm and orderly. Over 7,700 candidates competed for seats in the Council of Representatives across 18 constituencies.

Voting took place in more than 8,700 polling centers and 39,000 individual stations, staffed by 235,000 election workers.
