PMF forms committee to compensate residents after deadly Jurf al-Naddaf blast
BAGHDAD — The Popular Mobilization Forces said Thursday it has formed a field committee to assess damage and compensate residents affected by the recent explosion in Baghdad’s Jurf al-Naddaf area.
In a statement, the PMF said it “acted immediately upon the incident to form a special field committee to survey damages and compensate those affected by the incident.”
The committee began work in coordination with local and security authorities to document property losses and ensure compensation for affected homes. The PMF said the measures aim to “ensure fairness to all citizens affected by this accidental incident.”
Three PMF members were killed earlier this week in what officials described as an accidental explosion during a technical operation in Jurf al-Naddaf. The force said the blast was caused by explosive materials left behind by Islamic State militants and stored inside one of its facilities.
Iraq continues to face widespread contamination from unexploded ordnance and improvised explosive devices left from decades of conflict, including the campaign against ISIS.
