Worker dies from injuries nine days after Erbil gas station fire
ERBIL – One of the workers injured in a gas station fire in Erbil has died after nine days in the hospital, authorities said Monday.
The blaze broke out on Oct. 4 at the Lapp gas station in the Farmanbaran neighborhood, injuring several people. Four were station employees, and the fifth was the driver of the truck involved in the incident.
Civil defense teams contained the fire with 10 units. A vehicle, two trucks, and the station’s fuel storage tanks were destroyed, while the blast shattered windows in nearby homes.
Dr. Karwan Tawfiq, head of the burns unit at Emergency Hospital in Erbil, told 964media that the victim, identified as 25-year-old Sarhad Jaafar, died at 3:30 a.m. Monday due to the severity of his burns.
Jaafar was from the village of Kele in Duhok’s Akre district. The hospital has since released his body to his family.
