Beetle removed from child’s ear in Erbil

ERBIL – A doctor in Erbil successfully removed a beetle from a child’s ear without causing injury, allowing the child to return home in good health, according to the attending physician.

Dr. Kurdin Qasim, an ear, nose and throat specialist, told 964media the case was brought to him on Wednesday after “a child had a beetle enter the ear canal, and I was able to remove it. The child is fine.”

He said, “The beetle was stuck to the child’s eardrum, but after a lot of effort, I managed to remove it under a microscope.”

Qasim noted that such cases are rare but potentially dangerous. “Any mistake during removal can harm the child’s eardrum,” he said.

To prevent similar incidents, he advised families to keep floors clean and ensure sleeping areas are tidied before children go to bed. For minor cases at home, Qasim said, “If a small insect enters the ear, it is better to put two to three drops of olive oil or any natural oil. But under no circumstances should onions or garlic be placed in the ear, because the ear canal is sensitive and any irritation can cause severe pain.”
