Parent arrested after assault on teacher in Karbala
KARBALA — Police in Karbala announced Wednesday the arrest of a parent accused of assaulting a teacher at the private Nusour al-Durra School after a video appearing to show the incident circulated on social media.
In a statement, Karbala Police said, “The Karbala Police Command followed what was circulated on social media regarding the incident of a parent assaulting a member of the teaching staff at Nusour al-Durra School.”
The statement continued, “Our patrols responded immediately, moving to the scene of the incident, and under direct judicial supervision, the assailant was arrested and handed over to the judiciary to receive fair punishment in accordance with the law.”
Police condemned the attack, saying, “The Karbala Police Command denounces such acts that target the prestige of the educational institution and the dignity of teachers. It affirms that it will never allow any violation of the law or against those working in the education sector or any citizen. It also renews its full commitment to protecting educational institutions and all vital facilities and to taking deterrent measures against anyone who attempts to compromise security or infringe on public order.”
On Sept. 25, 2024, police in Diwaniyah arrested a parent accused of assaulting the principal of Al-Balag Al-Mubeen Boys High School in Hamza Al-Ghanem village, Suniyah district, after the principal refused to enroll his son due to overcrowding and residency outside the school’s catchment area.
