Iraq bans poultry imports to support local producers
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Ministry of Agriculture said Monday it will ban the import of whole frozen chickens, chicken parts, and processed poultry products, a move aimed at supporting domestic farmers.
In a statement, the ministry said the decision “aims to protect local producers.” The Council of Ministers for Economy approved the measure following a proposal by Agriculture Minister Abbas Jabr al-Maliki.
The ban will take effect 45 days from the date of issuance, giving traders and importers time to adjust.
