Iraqi president meets new US chargé d’affaires in Baghdad

BAGHDAD — President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid on Monday received Joshua Harris, the newly appointed chargé d’affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Iraq, at Baghdad Palace following Harris’ assumption of duties on Sept. 7.

The two discussed bilateral ties and areas of cooperation. Rashid said Iraq remains committed to “building balanced partnerships based on mutual respect and shared interests.” Talks also touched on regional and international issues, with both sides stressing the importance of dialogue and stability.

Baghdad, 8 September 2025 – President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received Joshua Harris, Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Iraq, at Baghdad Palace on the occasion of his assumption of duties.

They discussed ways to further enhance bilateral relations and promote initiatives that serve the interests of both countries and their peoples. President Rashid reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to building balanced partnerships based on mutual respect and shared interests.

The discussions also touched on regional and international developments, with an emphasis on the importance of joint efforts to promote regional stability and encourage constructive dialogue among all stakeholders.

Chargé d’Affaires Harris expressed his pride in representing the United States in Iraq and underscored his commitment to working closely with Iraqi partners to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation across various sectors, with the aim of supporting security, stability and prosperity throughout the region.
