Death toll from Shekhan accident rises to three
DUHOK — The death toll from Thursday’s accident in Shekhan district rose to three on Saturday after another victim died in the hospital, health officials said.
The incident occurred when a boy entered an oil tanker to clean it but lost consciousness inside. Six of his family members tried to rescue him and also fell unconscious due to suffocation. The boy’s father later died, followed by the boy himself on Friday morning. On Saturday, a third victim, the boy’s uncle, also passed away.
A medical source at Azadi Hospital told 964media, “A few hours ago, the third person injured in the Shekhan accident, who had been under intensive care, died.” The victim was identified as a 45-year-old by the initials B.A.
Karim Kamal, director of Shekhan Emergency Hospital, told 964media, “Now only one person from the Shekhan accident remains in the hospital and is under treatment.”
