Two cousins missing, feared drowned in Tigris River
SALAH AL-DIN — Two cousins, aged 17 and 21, are missing and feared drowned while swimming in the Tigris River in Salah Al-Din governorate, with searches for their bodies still underway, according to local sources.
“At night, some young men from the area go swimming in the river,” witness Wahab Ismail told 964media. “Last night, like previous nights, a 17-year-old youth went into the deep part of the river while swimming and could not return or save himself. His 21-year-old cousin immediately went in to rescue him.”
He said searches began immediately by young men from the area, “but because the spot is deep and not easy for anyone to reach, nothing has been found so far.”
Both victims were residents of Tikrit and students. Their families and local rescue teams have been informed, and efforts to recover the bodies are continuing.
