Three drones strike Zmnako Mountain near Darbandikhan, targeting telecom towers
SULAYMANIYAH — Three drones struck Zmnako Mountain near Darbandikhan district on Thursday, with two exploding near telecommunications towers and one remaining unexploded, a security source told 964media.
The drones landed near towers belonging to Asiacell and Kurdistan radio channel on the mountain, located along the border area in Sulaymaniyah governorate. “Two of the drones exploded, but one did not detonate,” the source said, adding that security forces and operations units are at the scene to recover the unexploded drone. No casualties were reported.
“Based on the initial investigation and the direction of the drones, it appears they were launched from Iran,” the source said.
The strike is the latest in a series of drone and missile incidents across the Kurdistan Region since the U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran began Feb. 28. Iranian Kurdish opposition camps in Koya district have been repeatedly targeted, and projectiles have fallen or been intercepted in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and border areas.
