Al-Sudani chairs meeting to review oil projects, calls for faster implementation
BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired a meeting Thursday to review ongoing projects by the Ministry of Oil, calling for accelerated progress, and improved reporting structures to support project completion.
“The importance of keeping pace with project implementation” was emphasized, according to a statement from Al-Sudani’s media office.
The meeting included the Minister of Oil, ministry deputies, senior staff, and the Deputy Minister of Electricity.

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani chaired today, Thursday, the regular meeting dedicated to reviewing Ministry of Oil projects. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Oil, the ministry’s two deputies, and senior staff, as well as the Deputy Minister of Electricity. Discussions covered the listed projects, their implementation progress, and the need to resolve challenges and boost production.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of keeping pace with project implementation, accelerating the removal of obstacles, submitting detailed progress reports, and forming dedicated committees to address the issues facing the projects, especially in light of the significant progress achieved. To date, 14 major projects by the Ministry have been completed, while 19 are still underway. Key completed projects include: Al-Faihaa Field, the crude oil pipeline to Baghdad, two gas compressors in East Baghdad, Phase II of the Artawi Complex, the Halfaya Gas Processing Project, the Northern Refineries Rehabilitation Project, and the Isomerization Unit in Basra Refineries.
The meeting also reviewed several strategic projects, including the Common Seawater Supply Project and the Seawater Treatment Plant, which overlap with the desalination efforts in Basra; the exploratory well drilling project; the completion of Saba and Lahis oil fields; the development of the Artawi Complex; and the offshore pipeline project aimed at boosting oil exports from Basra.
Further discussions addressed the status of the Third Offshore Pipeline, the Nasiriyah Crude Oil Project, the completion of the Al-Faw Storage Facility, the rehabilitation of the northern system, the Nasiriyah Gas Processing Facility, the development of the Mansuriyah Field, and the fuel storage tank project to increase LPG capacity on the Baghdad and Diyala lines, as well as the FCC Project at the South Refineries.
Regarding gas production and development projects, the meeting covered the Halfaya–Basra Gas Pipeline, the Karbala Refinery–Karkh Storage Pipeline, and the LPG Pipeline from Abu Ghraib to Baghdad. It also followed up on the work in North Oil Company fields contracted with BP, Al-Ajil Field Project, Al-Qayyarah Field Project (North Oil Company), the Basra–Haditha Pipeline Project, and the storage tanks, industrial island, and the latest developments in the floating platform.
As part of the government’s drive to strengthen governance and digital transformation in the oil sector, the meeting reviewed updates on the implementation of POS (electronic payment card) systems at fuel stations.
