Pipeline rupture floods Mosul street, disrupts water supply

MOSUL — A burst water pipeline on Street 30 in Mosul’s Intisar neighborhood has disrupted water supply to surrounding areas, including Karama, amid ongoing work on a long-delayed sewer project.

Residents voiced frustration over the prolonged construction and its consequences. “The sewer project in Karama, which stretches one kilometer, has not been finalized for seven months,” said Ammar Al-Mosuli, a local resident. “The water accumulation is a waste of public funds, while many areas still suffer from outages.”

Al-Mosuli said children had begun playing in the flooded street. “We’ve named it the Karama Olympic Pool due to the volume of water and its accumulation,” he quipped.

He added that complaints to local authorities have been met with limited response. “When we file complaints, the municipal teams show up for one day and disappear for 15, giving many excuses without real solutions,” he said.

In a statement to 964media, Mosul Municipality media director Alaa Al-Haidari said the rupture occurred during work on the sewer network in Intisar. “As soon as it happened, the municipality coordinated with the relevant authorities,” he said.

Water service to Karama is expected to be restored by the end of the day, Al-Haidari said.
