Fires erupt across Nineveh, injuring four and destroying firetruck

NINEVEH — Three separate fires broke out across Nineveh governorate in recent hours, including one that injured four civil defense personnel and destroyed a firefighting vehicle, local officials said Monday.

In Mosul’s Karamah Market, a blaze erupted inside several commercial shops, likely caused by an electrical short circuit, according to a security source. “Civil defense teams rushed to the site and managed to contain the fire, with assistance from tankers belonging to the Nineveh Sewer Directorate,” the source said. No injuries were reported, and the damage was limited to property.

A more serious incident occurred west of Mosul in the Kasak–Zanazel area, where a fuel tanker caught fire early Monday. Two civil defense teams responded, but the tanker exploded during firefighting efforts. “The explosion resulted in injuries to four civil defense members and the complete destruction of one firefighting vehicle,” the source said.

In a third incident, a fire broke out at the Nabi Younis Market. Civil defense units did not arrive in time, and local residents extinguished the flames themselves. Officials said no emergency call had been received, delaying the response.

Authorities have not announced formal investigations into the causes of the fires but urged the public to report emergencies promptly to avoid further delays in future incidents.
