Safwan Auction draws shoppers looking for quality used goods near the Kuwaiti border

BASRA, October 28 — Every Friday, residents of Basra and nearby governorates flock to the Safwan Auction near the Kuwaiti border, where various used goods, often from well-known brands, are on display. The place is called Safwan Auction because most of the displayed goods come from Kuwait, in addition to some items imported from Turkey.

Shoppers can find a variety of goods, including clothing, electrical appliances, and even wood. Items are available for wholesale and retail, with delivery services to other governorates.

At the auction, the principle “used is better than new” prevails, since goods for sale are produced by well-known brands, known for their quality.

Younis Al-Badiri, a household furniture seller told 964, “I’ve been working in this auction for 15 years, selling furniture imported from Kuwait and Turkey. I have customers from various Iraqi provinces, and I offer delivery services.”

Haider Abu Saif – Seller to Network 964: “I’ve been selling household appliances for a long time in this auction, and most of them are well-made, which makes them last a long time.”

He continued, “The price of an appliance depends on its cleanliness. The price of stoves ranges from 125,000 to 175,000 Iraqi dinars, and refrigerators from 200,000 to 300,000 dinars. People start arriving at the market from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and we have customers from various governorates.”
