Mobile clinic in Maysan offers low-cost and free in-home nursing care
MAYSAN — A team of three nurses in Al-Qala’a Al-Salih district in Maysan governorate has revived a mobile health initiative to bring low-cost and free in-home care to underserved families.
The project, known as the Al-Qala’a Model Clinic, was originally launched during the COVID-19 pandemic to offer emergency and nursing services at no charge. Now, after conducting a field study to assess ongoing needs, the team has formally reestablished the program to serve residents unable to access traditional medical facilities.
“The clinic was founded during the pandemic and initially offered entirely free services,” said Karar Farhan, the team’s leader. “Today, we charge minimal fees while continuing to serve low-income families at no cost.”
The mobile clinic is operated by Farhan and two other nurses, Mohammed Qasim and Sadiq. They provide services such as surgical stitch removal, IV setup, blood pressure monitoring, and other basic nursing procedures — all conducted in patients’ homes.
“We are a team of three nurses providing direct in-home care,” said Qasim. “Once contacted, we dispatch a nurse to deliver services at the patient’s residence. Our services remain free for families in need.”
The nurses say they hope the model inspires other local health workers to establish similar services in remote and underserved communities.
