Iraqi embassy in Turkey launches electronic passport system

BAGHDAD, October 26 — The Embassy of Iraq in Turkey announced the launch of an electronic passport system in Ankara on Thursday, issuing the first electronic passport to an Iraqi citizen in the country.

In a statement, the embassy noted that Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Ankara, Mr. Majid Al-Lajmaawi, inaugurated the electronic passport issuance system, closely supervising the steps and procedures of the issuance. as well as the issuance of the first electronic passport.

Ambassador Al-Lajmaawi commended the efforts of the staff of the Civil Status, Passports, and Residence Affairs Directorate at the Ministry of Interior for launching the new Iraqi electronic passport.

The new passport features high-level technical specifications and is approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It is expected to reduce approximately 85 percent of paper-based administrative procedures.
