Dawa Party hails conflict with Israel as ‘divine victory’ for Iran, urges readiness for future conflict
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Islamic Dawa Party, led by former Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki, on Tuesday praised Iran’s recent military confrontation with Israel, calling it a “heroic epic of defiance and resilience” and declaring the outcome a “victory” for the Islamic Republic.
In a statement, the party described Israel as “counting its heavy losses” following what it characterized as a failed offensive. “The Islamic Republic of Iran, through the courage and wisdom of its leadership and the bravery of its armed forces, especially the Revolutionary Guard, managed to defeat the unjust Zionist aggression,” the statement said.
The party went on to describe the confrontation as ending “in favor of Iran with this clear divine victory,” and called for “preparations at the highest levels” in anticipation of possible future conflicts with Israel.
The 12-day conflict inflicted heavy costs. Iranian officials confirmed the deaths of senior military commanders and nuclear scientists, and the destruction of multiple ballistic missile and nuclear sites. Casualty estimates range in the hundreds killed and thousands wounded.
“We congratulate the brotherly Iranian people and His Eminence Leader Imam Khamenei and his heroic soldiers on this achievement and miracle,” the statement added.
The fighting ended with a ceasefire that took effect at 7 a.m. Tuesday local time. The truce followed an Iranian missile strike on the U.S.-operated Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, launched in retaliation for American airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities two days earlier.
