Al-Sudani, Erdogan condemn Israeli strikes on Iran, warn of wider regional war
BAGHDAD – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned Israeli military actions against Iran during a phone call Sunday, describing them as part of an effort “to escalate and widen the scope of war.”
According to a statement from Al-Sudani’s media office, the two leaders discussed regional developments and emphasized “the importance of coordination”. Al-Sudani reiterated Iraq’s “unequivocal rejection of any violation of its sovereignty and airspace,” calling such incidents “blatant breaches of international law.”
Earlier today, Al-Sudani expressed Iraq’s “full solidarity” with Iran during a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. According to a statement from Al-Sudani’s media office, the prime minister said Iraq views Iran’s security and stability as “integral to the security and stability of the entire region.” He affirmed Iraq’s readiness to provide “all necessary forms of assistance,” describing it as part of the principles of solidarity that “unite Islamic nations.”

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani received a phone call today, Sunday, from the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The call addressed recent developments in the region, with both leaders emphasizing the importance of coordination and unified efforts to enhance regional security and stability.
The two leaders expressed condemnation of the Zionist aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which reflects the Zionist entity’s intent to escalate and widen the scope of war. They stressed the need for a united stance, especially among Islamic countries, to confront the Zionist entity’s aggressive policies.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq’s unequivocal rejection of any violation of its sovereignty and airspace, describing such actions as blatant breaches of international law. He also expressed Iraq’s support for holding a meeting of the foreign ministers of Islamic countries in Istanbul to discuss recent developments.
President Erdoğan affirmed Türkiye’s support for Iraq’s sovereignty and praised the Iraqi government’s efforts to safeguard its territory and avoid being drawn into the regional conflict.
