Iraqi parliament leadership condemns Israeli strikes on Iran, urges international action
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani on Friday condemned Israeli strikes on Iran, calling them “criminal acts in violation of international charters” and accusing Israel of targeting “Iran’s military, scientific, and civilian leadership.”
In a statement, Al-Mashhadani described the attacks as “an extension of the escalation and aggressive policies pursued by the Zionist entity against countries in the region.”
He urged the United Nations and the Security Council to take “immediate action to condemn” the strikes, warning of the potential for further violence “that will claim the lives of innocent civilians.”
First Deputy Speaker Mohsen Al-Mandlawi also denounced the Israeli military operation, describing it as “treacherous Zionist assaults” and a “blatant violation of international charters and laws.”
In his statement, Mandlawi said the escalation threatens regional security and stability, calling on the international community to “act immediately to rein in the Israeli enemy and stop its recklessness.”
“Continuing to remain silent about the occupation’s crimes and its atrocious violations during this critical and sensitive period will have grave and inevitable consequences for international peace,” he said.
Mandlawi also expressed “full solidarity with our dear neighbor Iran” and extended condolences for what he called “the martyrdom of a number of its leaders, scientists, and citizens in this bloody Zionist aggression.”
He further urged Iraq to file an official complaint against Israel, accusing it of “violating the country’s airspace and using it to strike Iraq’s neighbors in a blatant infringement of national sovereignty.”
