Fire extinguished at multi-story commercial building in Baghdad’s Shorja district

BAGHDAD — Civil Defense teams extinguished a large fire on Thursday that broke out in a deteriorated multi-story commercial building used as clothing warehouses and shops in Baghdad’s central Shorja area. No injuries were reported.

“A few minutes after the fire started, Civil Defense teams brought it under full control,” the department said in a statement. The fire occurred near Al-Nahr Street in the Shorja commercial market area.

The statement added that the teams “mobilized quickly, surrounded the burning building, conducted direct entry operations through the floors, and completed extinguishing and cooling efforts,” minimizing material damage.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident. “The Civil Defense requested the opening of an investigation and the summoning of a forensic expert to determine the causes of the fire,” the statement said.
