Security guard killed by accidental gunshot at worksite in Zubair district

BASRA — A 38-year-old man was killed Wednesday evening by a gunshot to the chest inside a guard trailer at a company site in the Juwybeda quarries area of Zubair district, west of Basra, according to a police officer.

The victim had been working as a security guard alongside a colleague when the incident occurred.

“His friend was handling a hunting rifle when it accidentally discharged a single round that struck the victim directly in the heart, killing him instantly,” the officer told 964media.

Initial findings suggest the shooting was unintentional and resulted from negligence and mishandling of the weapon. The rifle was in the possession of the other guard at the time.

Police responded to the scene after the incident, collected evidence, and opened an investigation. The body was transferred to the forensic department for examination and legal procedures.
