Fire damages seven stalls in Basra’s Al-Zubair Grand Market

BASRA — A fire broke out Saturday in the spice market section of Al-Zubair Grand Market in Basra governorate, damaging seven stalls selling spices, dates, perfumes, and cleaning supplies.

The blaze began in accumulated waste and spread to the stalls before being brought under control by local civil defense teams.

A security source told 964media that “civil defense teams rushed to the market and managed to contain the fire before it spread to nearby shops and stalls. The losses are solely material.”

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by ignited waste. Market workers have called for improved sanitation and greater oversight to prevent similar incidents.
