Iraqi president urges Arab media to ‘strengthen bonds of fraternity’ ahead of Baghdad summit

BAGHDAD — President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received the Arab League’s official media delegation on Thursday at Al-Salam Palace, urging journalists “to strengthen bonds of fraternity and unity among peoples and to reinforce political, security, and economic stability in the region,” according to a statement from the Iraqi Presidency.

Welcoming the delegation, Rashid said Baghdad’s hosting of the Arab League Summit, set for Saturday, reflects Iraq’s “pivotal role” and “ongoing efforts to advance joint action in facing regional challenges.” He said the summit will focus on “critical issues affecting the region’s peoples” and seek decisions that promote “peace and stability.”

President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received the official media delegation of the Arab League on Thursday at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.

At the beginning of the meeting, the president welcomed the delegation members, wishing them success in their mission to strengthen bonds of fraternity and unity among peoples and to reinforce political, security, and economic stability in the region.

He stated that Baghdad’s hosting of the summit stems from its pivotal role and ongoing efforts to advance joint action in facing regional challenges, enhancing cooperation and coordination among brotherly nations, safeguarding shared interests, and fulfilling aspirations for development, prosperity, and peace. He affirmed that the summit would address critical issues affecting the region’s peoples and seek decisions that promote peace and stability.

The president highlighted the media’s key role in bridging the gap between the public and policymakers, as well as in informing public opinion of the strategies aimed at achieving sustainable development goals and the aspirations of the region’s states and peoples.

President Rashid reaffirmed Iraq’s support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state. Regarding Syria, he emphasized the importance of respecting the will of the Syrian people in all their diversity and strengthening bilateral relations on the basis of mutual respect and shared interests. He also expressed hope for the success of ongoing negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States.

The president underscored the need to end conflicts in Sudan and Yemen, stressing Iraq’s support for the stability of both countries and peace in the region.

He further highlighted Iraq’s current security, economic, and political stability and the development of its regional and international relations.

The president called on media professionals to convey the true picture of Iraq’s security stability and coexistence among all components of Iraqi society and to inform the world of Iraq’s progress in consolidating democratic governance and protecting human rights.

Members of the delegation expressed their gratitude to the president, affirming their commitment to strengthening ties and cooperation among brotherly peoples through transparent and accurate media coverage.
