Iraq’s electoral commission releases latest figures on parties, alliances, and lists
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission released detailed figures Wednesday on the political parties, alliances, and independent lists eligible or seeking to take part in the country’s upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled for Nov. 11.
Commission spokesperson Jumana Al-Ghalai told journalists that 338 political parties have been registered with the Department of Political Parties and Organizations Affairs since its establishment in 2015, including 106 that have expressed interest in participating in this year’s elections.
She added that 61 parties remain under formation, having submitted applications but not yet received official licenses.
Al-Ghalai said 66 political alliances have been registered across the 2018, 2021, and 2023 election cycles. Of those, nine alliances have formally declared their intention to participate this year, while seven new alliances have recently submitted registration requests.
She also noted that 10 independent electoral lists have registered and confirmed they will contest the elections.
